Find and hire directly

Find a home cook near you

Hire a cook for the meals your family eats every day — part-time for one or two meals, or a full-time cook who lives in. On MeeHelp you tell the app how many people the cook will be cooking for, see cooks near your address and contact the ones you want to speak to.

Profiles don't list food preferences, so talk to each cook about the food you eat, your rules in the kitchen and the meal times you need, and agree the salary with them directly.

What you see and choose in the app

  • Hire part-time help for 2, 4, 6, 8, 10 or 12 hours a day, or full-time help who lives in with you.
  • Tell the app how many people the cook will be cooking for (1 to 5 household members) and whether you prefer a male or female cook.
  • Matching helpers near your address are listed with their distance in km. Sort the list by distance, or by date to see who joined most recently.
  • Each profile shows the helper's experience, the work they do, their age, marital status and education, and whether they read, write and speak English. Salary isn't listed — you agree it with the helper.
  • "View Contact" uses one contact from your plan. You can then call the helper, chat in the app or message them on WhatsApp.
  • After a call you can mark what happened — interviewed, hired, didn't answer or didn't turn up.
  • If you want a trial day, agree it with the helper directly — when it is, what they'll do and what you'll pay for it.
  • Don't pay a helper in advance for work they haven't done. The app shows the same reminder.
  • Ask to see the helper's ID before they start. Checking documents is the employer's responsibility, and MeeHelp recommends that you arrange police verification once you have hired someone.
  • The app checks your address — city, pincode and map location — and tells you if your area isn't covered yet.

What MeeHelp checks when a helper registers

When a helper registers on MeeHelp:

  • Mobile number verified by OTPEach helper's mobile number is verified with a one-time password when they register.
  • Aadhaar document collected and manually reviewedEach helper submits their Aadhaar document when they register, and MeeHelp reviews it by hand. The address on that document is available to MeeHelp.

MeeHelp reviews the helper's Aadhaar document to check their identity. It is not a police verification or a background check, and MeeHelp does not separately check where the helper lives — so follow the tips below as well.

Tips for hiring

  • Share any allergies and strict dietary rules (for example, no onion or garlic) in writing on the first day.
  • Speak to the helper on the phone, and meet them before they start.
  • See their original ID in person when you meet.
  • Many housing societies and local police ask households to register domestic staff. Check what your building and city require.
  • Agree the tasks, hours, salary, weekly off and notice period clearly — in writing if you can.
  • Start with a trial before you commit.
  • Keep cash, jewellery and important documents locked away, especially in the first few weeks.

Cook: frequently asked questions

Can I hire a cook for just one meal a day?

Yes. Many households hire a cook for one or two meals a day. Tell the cook which meals you need and what time you would like the food ready.

Can I find a cook for vegetarian-only or Jain food?

Profiles don't show food preferences, so ask about it on your first call. Explain your rules — such as Jain food or no onion and garlic — and ask for a trial meal before you decide.

How is a cook's salary decided?

You agree it directly with the cook, usually based on the number of people and meals and the type of food. MeeHelp doesn't take a placement fee.

Does the cook buy groceries?

Usually you provide the ingredients and the cook prepares the meals. If you would like the cook to shop for you, agree this, and how money will be handled, in advance.

How do I know a cook will suit my family's taste?

Agree a trial meal with the cook before you decide, and give honest feedback on spice, salt and oil in the first week.
