Elder care at home for your parents

Many older people want to stay in their own homes but need a hand with bathing and dressing, moving around safely, meals and their daily routine — and someone to talk to. On MeeHelp you find a care attendant near you, contact them directly and agree the hours, the tasks and the salary yourself.

In the app, elder care and patient care attendants come from the same pool of care helpers. What makes it elder care is what your parent needs, so describe their routine, health and mobility when you speak to each attendant.

What you see and choose in the app

  • Hire part-time help for 2, 4, 6, 8, 10 or 12 hours a day, or full-time help who lives in with you.
  • Choose the hours a day you need help and, if you have one, a gender preference.
  • Elder care and patient care attendants come from the same pool of care helpers in the app. Tell each attendant about your parent's routine, health and mobility, so you choose someone whose experience fits.
  • Matching helpers near your address are listed with their distance in km. Sort the list by distance, or by date to see who joined most recently.
  • Each profile shows the helper's experience, the work they do, their age, marital status and education, and whether they read, write and speak English. Salary isn't listed — you agree it with the helper.
  • "View Contact" uses one contact from your plan. You can then call the helper, chat in the app or message them on WhatsApp.
  • After a call you can mark what happened — interviewed, hired, didn't answer or didn't turn up.
  • If you want a trial day, agree it with the helper directly — when it is, what they'll do and what you'll pay for it.
  • Don't pay a helper in advance for work they haven't done. The app shows the same reminder.
  • Ask to see the helper's ID before they start. Checking documents is the employer's responsibility, and MeeHelp recommends that you arrange police verification once you have hired someone.
  • The app checks your address — city, pincode and map location — and tells you if your area isn't covered yet.

What MeeHelp checks when a helper registers

When a helper registers on MeeHelp:

  • Mobile number verified by OTPEach helper's mobile number is verified with a one-time password when they register.
  • Aadhaar document collected and manually reviewedEach helper submits their Aadhaar document when they register, and MeeHelp reviews it by hand. The address on that document is available to MeeHelp.

MeeHelp reviews the helper's Aadhaar document to check their identity. It is not a police verification or a background check, and MeeHelp does not separately check where the helper lives — so follow the tips below as well.

Tips for hiring

  • Write down your parent's routine, medicines, mobility needs and emergency contacts, and go through them with the attendant on the first day.
  • Speak to the helper on the phone, and meet them before they start.
  • See their original ID in person when you meet.
  • Many housing societies and local police ask households to register domestic staff. Check what your building and city require.
  • Agree the tasks, hours, salary, weekly off and notice period clearly — in writing if you can.
  • Start with a trial before you commit.
  • Keep cash, jewellery and important documents locked away, especially in the first few weeks.

Elder Care: frequently asked questions

Is elder care a separate category from patient care in the app?

No. Both are served by the same pool of care attendants. The difference is your parent's needs — explain them when you call, so you choose someone whose experience fits.

What does an elder care attendant do?

Help with personal care, moving around safely, meals and the daily routine, light housekeeping around your parent, errands, and company — reading, conversation, short walks and going along to appointments.

Can the attendant check my parent's blood pressure or sugar?

Only where the assigned caregiver is trained to, and as monitoring that they report to you — not diagnosis. Ask about it before you hire, and follow your doctor's advice.

Is an elder care attendant a nurse?

No. Attendants give daily-living support. Injections, IV lines and other medical procedures are not part of the service — ask your parent's doctor about a qualified nurse for those.
